The Civil / Structural Engineer position is responsible for the successful completion of technical civil, structural, and foundation designs, project deliverables, and related documents. Lead technical designs, conduct calculations, draft documents, generate and/or review engineering work in accordance with industry and CCI Inc.’s codes and standards. Projects may range from small scale pipe support and grade designs to large scale shaft and foundation designs and technical construction support. This is an intermediate to senior level position, and the incumbent will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Project Managers and Divisional Manager(s).

Location:

Houston Office. This role is primarily office based but candidate must have the ability for intermittent travel to various job sites when needed.

Accountabilities:

  • Design and analysis of tunnel shafts excavation, and shaft’s temporary support of excavation.
  • Perform structural analyses for braced excavations, sheet piling, and pile and drilled shaft foundation.
  • Structural design of equipment packages and steel structures including support frames/skids.
  • Design and analysis of structures including buildings, skid packages, pipe racks, pipeline anchors, vessel supports, stacks and miscellaneous equipment.
  • Provide civil and structural engineering design services for structures and foundations for piping, platforms, as well as roadway construction and site drainage plans.
  • Design of specialized foundations, including footing, thrust blocks, steel driven piles, screw piles, hydrovac piles, micropiles, concrete piles, and retaining structures.
  • Design and analysis of steel structures including pipe rack modules, tank farm catwalks, equipment platforms, stairs & platforms, skid modules, and similar equipment.
  • Site grading conceptual design.
  • Structurally assessing and modifying existing steel structures.
  • Remediation of existing foundations.
  • Inspection, review, and assessment of concrete, steel, and wood structures including special structures such as bridges, retaining walls, pipeline aerial supports.
  • Projects may include mechanical engineering design, integrity replacements, riser sites, valve replacements, pigging stations, metering sites, ect.
  • Assist with the completion of various project deliverables (engineering calculations, engineered drawings, specifications and datasheets, evaluation of technical feasibility, process design, pipeline systems optimization)
  • Liaison between engineering disciplines and managed third-party contractors.
  • Assist in development of cost estimates, project schedule, and scope of work packages. 
  • Technical coordination with various disciplines, both internal and external.  
  • Assist with business development proposals and studies as required, including occasional presentations or attendance at industry conferences.
  • Assist in developing and standardizing templates and commonly issued project documents/calculations to improve overall efficiency of the company’s operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an Accredited University (Civil or Structural preferred)
  • Registered as Professional Engineer in Texas (additional PE licencing considered an asset)
  • 5+ yearsexperience in a related field
  • Previous civil construction experience specifically tunnels, underground works, deep shafts, and support of excavation and dewatering is considered valuable.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • An excellent communicator and team player, able to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment with a positive attitude
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous, and have strong organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn and take additional responsibilities
  • Quality and Safety oriented mindset

  • Technical writing skills.
  • Professional licensure with other provincial associations (EGBC, PEO, etc.) is a benefit.
