Archaeology Field Technician

Location: Cochrane, Prince George, Fort St. John, Fort Nelson  

Salary: $25-$30 per hour (commensurate with experience).

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Archaeologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting research, excavating sites, and analyzing artifacts to contribute to our understanding of past human cultures. This role requires a strong foundation in data analysis and research methodologies, along with proficiency in various software tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and coordinating logistics for field work.
  • Assist in preparing and maintenance of field equipment and vehicles.
  • Conduct field surveys in remote locations and in inclement weather.
  • Contribute to a healthy team dynamic and overall team safety.
  • Conduct site evaluations, mitigations, and excavations according to Arch Branch standards.
  • Record and log data using GPS (iPads), take photographs and write effective field notes.
  • Comply with all appropriate safety standards, Policies and Procedures and Heritage Legislation.
  • Assist with artifact analysis and preparation of technical and site reports.

Qualifications:

  • Completed or in-progress degree in Anthropology or Archaeology.
  • Comfortable in remote locations, in adverse weather, and in physically strenuous conditions.
  • Valid Intermediate First Aid and Valid Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Bear Aware, ATV/UTV training, S100, H2S Alive, Outdoors survival and leadership skills.
  • Previous experience in Cultural Resource Management or fieldwork an asset.
  • Confident and capable of working in a safe team environment outdoors and in remote locations.
  • Willing to work out of hotels/camps or commute on busy FSRs or occasionally from boat or helicopter.
  • At ease working around wildlife (bear/moose) and domestic animals (crew dogs).
  • Familiarity with the current archaeological regulations and practices in BC.
